“Pick Your Own Poison”

You may pick a WOD that you missed from earlier in the week or choose a named CrossFit workout – the girls, heroes, or games workouts.  You may not create your own WOD.  This is an excellent time to test benchmarks.

The Function in the Fashion

Knee high socks do much more than just make you look awesome.  There are a couple of reasons you may want to consider adding a couple of pairs to your wardrobe.

#1 – Knee high socks offer a direct layer of protection for the shins and lower leg in such exercises as deadlifts, oly lifting, box jumps, and rope climbs.  While they may not 100% prevent any damage to the skin in a missed box jump or sliding down the rope, they definitely reduce the friction in these movements.  As for deadlifts and oly lifting they can nearly prevent the scraping of the shins that often occurs.

#2 – Like I said before, they make you look awesome and all the cool kids are doing it!  High knee socks are a pretty big part of CrossFit fashion.  They also make a great “in” when your out in public and spot an obvious fellow CrossFitter!

Some things to consider when buying some sweet socks:

  • The crazier the better!  I love my Superman socks the most (thanks T-Roy)!
  • Make sure they fit.  You don’t want to be pulling them up throughout the workout.
  • Compression socks can help stabilize the lower leg muscles, potentially improving performance.
